Well the Christmas tree is up….
Just kidding, although this awesome tree we received as an early Christmas card kicks of the seasonal decorations at FunkBunk, not be outdone by Purity Productions in the room next door we have a something special planned for our tree.
In other news, 02 and Vodafone users at FunkBunk are soon to be getting a major boost in the their mobile signal strength. All things going to plan, our new internal transmitter should mean no flaky signal for 02 users when inside the building.
Also, a couple of local business men have made their new years resolutions early and said they will be joining us full time at FunkBunk in January. We will post more info on these two businesses in the new year but we are looking forward to having them here and excited to see how they use the ‘Bunk to propel their businesses forward.

Every time I’m at a networking event of any type I always bump into people who say “Yeah I’ve heard of FunkBunk!” which is great considering we’ve never placed an advert before. We now want everyone we bump into to say they’ve heard of us so keep an eye out in your local press for adverts that look this. The adverts will feature a code on them which will make you eligible for a nice 10% discount on our services.
Keep an eye out for ‘pajama boy’ in your local parish magazines, newsletters and newspapers.

Collaboration. One of FunkBunk’s reasons for existing is to give its inhabitants the perfect environment in which to collaborate. Now FunkBunk itself is collaborating with one of our long time tenants – Purity Productions.
Purity were starting to grow out of the desks they were renting at FunkBunk but didn’t want leave the space as there was nothing close that compares. So we got our heads together, ate a few biscuits, drew some plans, crunched some numbers and spat on our hands and shook them like real men do. Before you know it FunkBunk part Deux in association with Purity Productions was born!
Going live on the 14th September 2010, the expansion of FunkBunk will double the amount of office space and give residents of FunkBunk a dedicated meeting room suitable for up to 10 delegates.
So whether you want to rent a permanent office for your business or you just want somewhere to escape to from the distractions of working from home, come and check out the new and improved FunkBunk.

The new meeting room today – awaiting floor to ceiling glass and carpets.

The wonders of Twitter have been distracting us of late (not hard, I know) and we have been neglecting our blog somewhat. So as it has been a month since I last mentioned what has been going on here, we thought we’d post a quick rundown of recent events.
Most of all we must say there has been a general feeling of industriousness here at FunkBunk over the last few months. There has been coworking and collaboration a-plenty as Bunkers Provide Design, Hallway Studios and Purity Productions have been working together to produce an online events management system and new website, due to launch in August. It has been great to see everyone coming together organically to produce some really great, effective work.
FunkBunk were also proud to be part of the WorkHubs conference on the 29th June. The conference, held at BT’s Business Centre and attended by over 120 people confirmed a national and public interest in the WorkHub & Coworking concept. FunkBunk is just one of many fantastic WorkHubs all over the UK and an outcome of the conference was that a supporting network will be created to support work spaces like ours – the next generation of workspaces to fit the low carbon economy. You can find out more about the conference here: http://www.liveworknet.com/live-work-article580.html
On the 4th August we hosted our first ever Jelly. The peeps from Chiltern Jelly came together for a spot of monthly co-working and the event went down so well they have rebooked for next month with a view to making the Jelly a monthly feature here at FunkBunk. A Jelly, in case you were wondering is a free all day event were people from all different industries (mainly home workers) come together to simply work in a different environment. We supply the tea, coffee, desks and broadband and Chiltern Jelly even supplied home baked cakes! It’s a great way to change your working space for a day and meet some new people. We look forward to hosting many more!
You can find out more about Chiltern Jelly here and book yourself on the next one on the 1st Sept here.
On a silly note, a Buzz Lightyear costume somehow made it into the ‘Bunk and it was shoe horned into a video competition for Olympus called ‘Read My Lips’….. You can see the slightly surreal effort online here.
FunkBunk are also now proud to be part of the newly formed Milton Keynes Design Forum. This group promises to be shining light for design in the Milton Keynes area. We shall definitely be posting on this more in the future but for now, if you are a professional connected with the design industry you should signing up to their website.
Our new pricing plan at FunkBunk is proving popular and we are loving meeting all the new FunkMonks when they come in for their couple of day’s a month. There are still plenty of spaces available for both part time and full time desk rental packages. So whether you are looking for a permanent base or just hot desk to use as your second office on the odd occasion please get in touch. (Download the pricing plans here)

“The experience of a loss of professional image and credibility is common-place. Frequent episodes of dressing gown days may occur and friends, family and neighbours consistently ask favours as your business is ‘just a hobby’.”

Now FunkBunk comes in four different flavours to suit your office needs. We realise that hotdesking doesn’t suit everyone, and renting a permanent office might not float some people’s boats either.
With FunkBunk becoming a more active coworking WorkHub every day, serving Milton Keynes, Leighton Buzzard and Aylesbury we are learning more about small businesses needs and wanted to offer more flexibility and better pricing to you guys.
So we created FunkMonk, FunkTrunk, FunkChunk & FunkBunker to cater for the ‘homeworker who just needs to get out of the house occasionally’ through to the ‘small business that needs a permanent base to develop their enterprise from’.
Check out all the details here!

We will also be adding online payment and booking to our system soon. Watch this space for more info.

With office space at a premium, a growing number of designers, writers and creative freelancers are looking for better alternatives to dubiously wedging their laptops onto already overcrowded, cappuccino stained tables in noisy, push-chair filled coffee shops.
It seems that hot-desking has provided the unlikely solution…but not the hot-desking we once knew. At one time, these flexible, rent-by-the-hour desks were the casual, use-‘em-and-leave-em luxuries only afforded by travelling businessmen who required an impersonal, claustrophobic box with suitably snooty concierge. That is until a few creative agencies stepped up to offer something altogether more fun, and far cooler, than the old-school stuffy beech-veneer desk with matching colour plastic cup filled with something masquerading as tea.
As more design and advertising agencies cut back on permanent staff and increase their use of freelancers, creative’s have had little choice but to become more mobile, flitting between clients, agencies and their home office with iPhone in one hand, super lightweight laptop in the other, portfolio balanced on their head. All well and good, but, there has been an unexpected consequence to all of this flexibility: the death of the creative buzz.
Time is money and the industry, in response to being squeezed on price from every direction, is behaving more like solicitors with its precious time. Communications and discussions between teams are carried out via e-mail, text, Skype and voicemail. Creative ideas sessions are fitted in – when possible – which typically leaves the freelancer working more and more on their own, missing out on that all important sounding board.
Enter: Creative Hot-Desking.
The concept is very different to the hot-desking of the past. Creative hot-desking offers desks by the hour and day in shared, open plan agency environments. Typically, these options provide stunning and inspiring environments with light and airy, contemporary décor and comfy, squidgy breakout areas. These workspaces give creative freelancers and media professionals a place to interact with others again, throw around ideas, hear and see what’s happening in their industry whilst enjoying their beloved organic tea, super smoothies and freshly ground coffee beans on brightly coloured cushions and achingly cool plastic chairs (creative’s are sensitive types you know – they need to be surrounded by beautiful things).
With everything going virtual, this brings back some desperately needed reality to the world of mobile working. With prices ranging from just £24 per day and only £15 for a half day, hot desks are being booked up quickly.
Sam Cranwell, Art Director of Provide Design set up a creative hot-desking environment outside of London in 2008 and has seen, first hand, the difference it has made to roving freelancers: “We work with many freelance designers and writers ourselves, many of whom had commented at one time or another how cut-off from the creative world they felt. When they pop in to use a desk for a day or two here at FunkBunk, they feel in touch again with a renewed enthusiasm for what they do. The buzz is fantastic. With so many interesting people coming and going, the place feels very dynamic. It’s a great concept that we hope to see grow outside London.”
