Now, I like pizza. I have also, in my lifetime, eaten a doner kebab (i was however very drunk). I also like chips.
I am not however a fastfood junky. I like to dabble, but on the whole my diet is balanced.
If I had truly, honestly known what this bad boy of a fastfood festival on a plate was going to be when I ordered it I may have reconsidered.
Let me explain. My lovely girlfriend and I were in Sweden visiting her relatives in a small town a couple of hours south of Stockholm called Österbymo. We were taken out to eat one evening to a nice little pizzeria. I was suffering from a Swedish beer hangover from the night before and some good wholesome junk food was just what the doctor ordered.
Not knowing what half of the menu meant as it was in Swedish I asked our table what they would recommend. Someone piped up “Ydre Special”. A few others nodded in agreement so I went ahead and ordered with a hair of the dog beer on the side.
Moments later food arrived and my eyes widened as could not believe the spectacle that sat steaming in front of me.
Ladies and Gentlemen – I give you: The Ydre Special
Diameter: 14 inches
Base: Thin crust proper pizza dough (ala Pizza Express)
Base Coat: Tomato Puree with just a smattering of herbs and cheese
Topping: Doner Kebab Meat, Chips and a sour cream and mustard sauce
Now I’m a polite boy and never like to leave food on my plate – that’s what my mum taught me. But boy was I sweating by the time I finished this one. Even our Swedish companions said they had never seen anyone finish it. It was however, extremely tasty and I would recommend it to any fast food fusion enthusiast – but be responsible and don’t over do it….
Now I know what you are asking: Do they deliver?
